We are one of the partner agencies in the Louisiana Asset Building Initiative which provides an Individual Development Account (IDA) program to help low wealth families become home owners through our partnership with Southern University's Center for Social Research. The state of Louisiana provides the seed money and the eligible participants are required to save $1,000 and complete required financial literacy and asset specific training classes to receive a 4 to 1 match of $4000. IDAs are one of the most promising tools that enable low-wealth American families to save, build assets, and enter the financial mainstream. Participants must have a copy of their social security card/state identification card; 2007 W-2 and 2007 tax returns; the 2 most recent pay stubs for all family members employed.Income eligibility guidelines: Maximum Income by Household Size Household Size of: 2 $28,000 3 $35,200 4 $42,400 5 $49,600 6 $56,800 7 $64,000 8 $7,200 For each additional person add $7,200.Clients must have some sources of income. Income is defined as: money wages and salaries before any deductions, net receipts from non-farm or farm self-employed (receipts from a person's own business or from an owned or rented farm after deductions for business or farm expenses.) Applicants should be able and willing to attend financial education and asset-specific training courses. Applicant should also be able to track individual/household expenses, and establish a reasonable spending plan which will include savings 4% of their monthly earned income. Each participant should be able to complete the program requirements and close on their home within the program timeline.
